There have been shows by adults working with kids but none that a young audience can literally identify with. Teen Kids News is filling that void and has captured the imagination of America, becoming the first program in history targeting the next generation of news viewers. Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. On Saturday August 26th, NBC Today Show's Special Report for breaking news coverage of Hurricane Harvey preempted Heart of a Champion at 930am, Voyager with Josh Garcia at 10am, and Wilderness Vet at 1030am. On Saturday September 9th, our local WYFF 4 cut-ins interrupted Voyager with Josh Garcia, Journey with Dylan Dreyer, and Give for 3 minutes at the start of each of these programs in order to update viewers about Hurricane Irma. On Sunday September 10th, our local Special Edition News 4 Newscast about Hurricane Irma preempted an episode of Animal Exploration at 1pm. Due to the amount of network sports programming that preempted children's core hours in Q3, we aired additional core hours. During 3rd quarter 2017, this station aired 8 additional episodes of the regularly scheduled core children's program "Teen Kids News." These "special editions" were intended to increase audience awareness of the program and to further educate and inform the teen audience about significant news events. The importance of engaging teen viewers in news-of-the-day -- which is a principal goal of the station's airing of these additional episodes -- cannot be overstated. In short, these airings were designed to update the teen audience about recent events and reports, some of which they had missed due to network sports coverage. We also aired 9 episodes of Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller. This program educates viewers about exotic, as well as, domestic animals from Jarod's unique perspective. These additional core episodes for both programs were promoted via on-air crawls, and the television listing services were notified in advance of their scheduling. WYFF 4 supports our children's programming efforts through community service outreach and non-broadcast efforts that serve the educational and informational needs of children. Information supporting our community outreach/non-broadcast efforts is maintained with this report in our Children's Public File. Efforts for 3rd quarter included our annual United Way campaign where station employees raised over $33,000 for the United Way effort, 4 Hurricane Relief where our telethon raised a total of $139,000 dollars in 13 hours, The Golden Apple Awards to honor local teachers and a Teacher of the Year, and Coaches for Character, a program that features well-known coaches and players who have an impact on young peoples lives. WYFF 4 actively participates in an Internship Program with area university students. Logan Brown, a student at North Greenville University, was an intern in our News Department, and Mike Jakucionis was an intern in our Sports Department. Mike is a student at Furman University. WYFF 4 actively participates in community outreach. Here is a partial list of examples: 9/13/17, Michael Cogdill, News 4 Primary Anchor, was the speaker at the Men Who Care Luncheon, Renaissance Hotel, Asheville, NC; 9/21/17, Nigel Robertson, News Anchor/Reporter, was the Awards Presenter at the Minority Enterprise Development dinner, TD Convention Center, Greenville, SC; 9/22/17, Geoff Hart, Morning News Anchor/Reporter, was the Master of Ceremonies at the Clemson Hall of Fame, Clemson University, Pickens, SC; 9/1517, Ally Powell, News Morning Anchor, was a participant for a Fund Raiser at Greenville Middle Academy, Greenville, SC; 7/11/17, Dale Gilbert, Meteorologist, gave a Weather Talk at the Roper Mountain Science Center, Greenville, SC; 7/2717, John Cessarich, Chief Meteorologist, was the speaker The Belton Area Museum Association, Weather Camp, in Anderson, South Carolina; 8/19/17, Aubrey Jackson, Reporter, was a participant in SHE Greenville at the TD Convention Center, Greenville, SC; 8/24/17, John Humphries, President & General Manager, was a Participant in The United Way Board meeting, at the UW Office, Greenville, SC. One or more episodes of children's programming that was preempted during the quarter was not rescheduled. The Digital Core Programming Summary section of this report would not permit the station to include preemption reports for such unrescheduled preemptions, and FCC Staff has advised that no preemption report for such unrescheduled episodes is necessary.
