KLTV performed the following non-broadcast efforts to benefit children during second quarter 2017: KLTV General Manager Pat Stacey conducted a station tour on 4/10/17 with a group of students from Colonial Hills Baptist Church. KLTV Meteorologist Cody Gottschalk conducted station tours for several groups of children during the second quarter of 2017. Henderson High School Journalism students toured the station on 4/12/17. Cody discussed careers in broadcasting with the group. Cody gave a station tour to students from the East Texas Christian Academy on 5/4/17. KLTV Anchor Joe Terrell hosted a group of Letourneau Journalism students on 4/4/17. They watched a newscast and toured the newsroom. Joe spoke to about 100 students at SFA on 4/6/17 on careers in broadcasting and the future of broadcast news. Joe spoke to TJC News producing students on 5/2/17 about TV/Digital news careers. KLTV Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto visited several area schools to present Project Tornado. Mark discusses the formation of tornadoes and safety precautions. Mark gave Project Tornado talks at the following schools: Velma Penny Elementary School in Lindale on 4/3/17. He talked to 400 first - third graders. College Street Elementary School in Lindale on 4/5/17 - 460 first - third graders attended. Owens Elementary School in Tyler on 4/7/17. Mark spoke to 500 second - fifth grade students. Jack Elementary School in Tyler on 4/11/17. 450 students attended. Arp Elementary School in Arp on 4/13/17. 240 second-fifth grade students attended. Douglass Elementary School in Jacksonville on 4/19/17. 160 second grade students attended. St. Mary's Catholic School in Longview on 4/21/17. 150 k-7th graders plus some home schooled students attended. Chandler Elementary on 4/26/17. 321 k-5th grade students were in attendance. Van Intermediate School in Van - 375 second-fourth grade students attended. Mark emceed the Autism Run in Tyler on 4/1/17 to benefit children with autism. Mark served as emcee at St. Mary's Catholic School benefit on 5/13/17 to raise money for the school. Mark hosted a young student on 6/30/17 in the KLTV Weathercenter. He appeared on air with Mark and worked as weatherman for a day. KLTV participates with a local hospital in the Neighborhood Weathernet Program. The main character, Maya is a free spirit with a curious demeanor and fondness for discovery. With her eagerness for adventure, she lives free in the meadow, because the world is just too big and too fascinating to stay in the bee hive. Through Maya's open-mindedness, children learn to foster their curiosity and to accept and respect others.
