Staff members participated in eight different Career Days and Career Fairs. Two of our meteorologists visited area classrooms to discuss what a meteorologist does at work, how the forecast is put together, where they get the weather data and what type of schooling is required. Between 1/24 and 2/17 they visited four classrooms. WEYI and NBC Television Network provided specific public service announcements targeted toward the needs of children in our community. NBC continues its series "The More You Know" announcements featuring important messages to prevent Global Warming and Violence, and to promote Self-esteem, Internet Safety, Environment, Nutrition, Diversity, Reading, and Physical Activity. "The More You Know's" comprehensive website (themoreyouknow.com) provides in-depth referral information, in connection with the on-air public service announcements, a general campaign overview, message boards, press releases, kids' pages and referral information by topic to partnering agencies referenced in the PSAs. The site includes a comprehensive list of the campaign's accolades, including Emmy and Peabody Awards. In addition, a behind-the-scenes story with clips from talent interviews can be viewed. |
