During this quarter KATU supported the educational and informational needs of children with on-air news and local programming, station projects and station tours. In December, the KATU Family Matters station campaign supported Salvation Army Angel Trees, which gathered and distributed donated toys and gifts for children and less fortunate families in the community. As part of the Sinclair Cares initiative, KATU aired news stories and promos regarding children's toy safety, used toys and toys connected to the internet. KATU news also covered stories about peanuts in schools, adoption procedures, child abuse laws, how added sugar in food effects children an 8 year old winning a golden ticket, kids at a local hospital designing athletic shoes, a woman collecting socks for kids at hospitals, sledding dangers, winter hours at public pools for kids and other options to keep kids busy during winter break. KATU news also aired Kids Doing Good Stuff highlighting good deeds in the community done by children. The station also conducted 7 group tours during this quarter that included children totaling about 135 in ages ranging from 6-18 years old.
