Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. AQUA KIDS, which aired on WUPW's main digital channel throughout the 4th quarter 2016, is a half-hour weekly series that provides core programming in the area of biology and specifically, the ecosystem related to the ocean, its tributaries and estuaries. Children can learn about the resources of the oceans and how protection of the oceans is necessary to present and future generations. Not only does the show teach biological topics, but it aims to enrich children's lives by making them aware of future generations, the role they play now, and for generations into the future, with the biggest ecosystem on earth - the oceans. Each episode provides information related to a specific topic and gives an educational approach to understand the topic as it relates to the entire ecosystem of the earth. AQUA KIDS uses the technique of near-peer mentors i.e., children to teach other children. Each episode employs these mentors (called Aqua Kids) who ask questions and experience first-hand the topic. For example, children might feed manatees to experience the graceful, gentle nature of the animal and learn about their biology or dig through piles of silt dredged from the ocean depths to look for shark teeth to understand how sharks continually grow new teeth and lose old rows of teeth.
