On Saturday, July 16, 2016, WQOW, ABC core programming was preempted by breaking news for Donald Trump to announce his running mate from 10:14am-11:00am, 16 minutes of Rock the Park and the full half hour of Born to Explore were not seen due to this Special Report. Third Quarter Station Events WATER STREET MILE ON JULY 9 News 18 aired a PSA to promote a mile run for charity. This PSA encouraged families to sign up to help raise money for the LE Phillips Center for Seniors. This PSA featured our Daybreak anchor Aaron Rody. More than 400 participants competed this year. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. LEADER TELEGRAM BUCKSHOT RUN ON AUGUST 30 AND SEPTEMBER 3 WQOW aired a PSA encouraging viewers to participate and sign up for the Leader Telegram Buckshot Run. This two mile run takes place at Carson Park in Eau Claire. The Buckshot Run is in its 34th year. Along with the two and five mile runs for the adults there is also a kids dash on September 3. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. UNITED WAY BLOCK PARTY ON SEPTEMBER 10 WQOW aired a promotion encouraging viewers to attend the United Way Block Party. This event is the kickoff event for the United Ways fund raising year. Along with the fun and games for families there is also an opportunity for those in attendance to learn about health education and income services in the Eau Claire area. This promotion let viewers know where and how to register for the event. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. DANCING WITH THE EAU CLAIRE STARS ON SEPTEMBER 9 WQOW aired spot encouraging viewers to attend the Dancing With The Eau Claire Stars. The event is a fund raising effort for the Eau Claire Childrens Theatre. Several teams of dancers compete on stage and with their fund raising efforts. News 18s Aaron Rody competed in the event this year. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. ROYAL CREDIT UNION CHARITY CLASSIC ON OCTOBER 8 WQOW aired a PSA encouraging viewers of all ages to attend RCUs Charity Classic. This event has been a part of the community since 1994. There is fun for all ages with a two mile race a 10k and several kids races. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Beaver Creek Reserve in Fall Creek. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. HIKE FOR THE HOMELESS ON SEPTEMBER 24 WQOW aired a promo encouraging viewers to sign up for the thirteenth annual Hike For The Homeless. This year the event raised more than 15 thousand dollars. More than one hundred fifty people participated. The PSA urged viewers to help this cause and sign up for the event. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event. SKI SPRITES WQOW aired a PSA to promote the Ski Sprites. This PSA encouraged viewers to attend ski shows and kids to sign up and join the Ski Sprites. The Ski Sprites teach the rules and regulations of water skiing and offer an alternative way for children to stay active during the summer. WQOW ran a promotional schedule leading up to the event.
