Include any other comments or information you want the Commission to consider in evaluating your compliance with the Children's Television Act (or use this space for supplemental explanations). This may include information on any other noncore educational and informational programming that you aired this quarter or plan to air during the next quarter, or any existing or proposed non-broadcast efforts that will enhance the educational and informational value of such programming to children. See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | During the second quarter, WWHO addressed the educational and informational needs of children through a variety of programming, outreach activities and sponsorship of local children's events and fundraisers. WWHO hosted its annual financial literacy initiative entitled Get Real. The program's primary focus is to teach students how to write checks, balance a checkbook and live within a specific salary. At the start of the program, participating students are assigned a career, a corresponding salary and a number of children. The students are coached on typical expenses incurred while raising a family and how to live within their means. In addition, WWHO airs a series of PSA announcements designed to teach children about the world around them, including respecting the environment, the dangers of drugs and alcohol and the importance of family values. Many of these PSA's are run during the Saturday morning educational programming when children are most likely to be watching the station. Finally, the station accepts requests for station tours. |
