During this quarter, WJAC aired public service announcements that addressed the topics of buzzed driving, nutrition and exercise, resources for teens, and the importance of blood donation. WJAC on air personalities and staff members made many appearances this quarter at sites throughout the viewing area. We also hosted students at our main studio who are interested in learning about broadcasting. On April 1, reporter Lauren Hensley participated in a career fair at Bishop Guilfoyle High School, explaining television reporting and coaching students who were practicing their own reporting presentations. Meteorologist Tony Martin spoke to 28 junior members of Brotherton Belles and Beaus 4H Club about TV weather forecasting on April 6. Students from Penn Highlands Community College visited the studio on April 7 to tour and observe a live newscast. On April 8, weather anchors Tony Martin and Mary Ours visited Cairnbrook Elementary School to tell students about television weather forecasting and share fun weather facts. A student from Southmoreland High School shadowed Meteorologist Josh Fosbrink on April 16 as he produced weekend weather forecasts. Josh also visited Conshatawba Girl Scout Camp on April 23 and demonstrated green screen technology while explaining weather forecasting. About 40 scouts tried their hand at weather presentations. Meteorologist Tony Martin visited grade 2 students at St. Benedict School to share info on weather forecasting on April 26. The entire weather staff participated in the Metropolitan Life Take your son or daughter to work event on May 5. Students from the Somerset Homeschoolers Association visited the studio on May 17 to watch a live noon news broadcast. Account executive Garrett Bowden participated in the Conemaugh Township High School Career Day on May 20 and spoke to students about digital sales. Students from Westmont Hilltop Elementary Grade 3 visited the studio to learn about producing the news and watch a live broadcast.
