KFRE continued to the serve the educational, informational, and social needs of children throughout the 2nd Quarter 2016 through extensive broadcast and outreach activities. The station has continued to air PSAs for local and national organizations serving the interests of children and families, including The Ad Council's Learning & Attention Issues Campaign, expanding the number of parents who are actively helping and seeking help for their children with learning and attention issues, The Stand Up to Cancer Campaign "Potential", featuring MLB Baseball Players and Child Cancer Survivor, Aidan Smithburger, creates awareness on the progress in Cancer Research in order to save lives, and the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospitals Campaign giving families hope when their children are receiving medical services at St. Jude hospital. We also have presented stories in our newscasts highlighting children's issues, including a report on two students at a local high school who are now national spelling champions after working to improve their spelling and overcoming challenges in their personal lives, a new directive from the president that gives students the opportunity to use the bathroom of their choice, our coverage of the Peanut Butter Roundup, highlighting the needs of families who cannot afford the food staple, and a report on the 60 percent of American parents who say they would go into debt to finance their child's education.
