During this quarter, WJAC aired public service announcements that addressed the topic of buzzed driving, nutrition and exercise, heart health, resources for teens, Internet safety, gun safety, and supporting the Special Olympics. WJAC on air personalities and staff members made several appearances this quarter at sites throughout the viewing area. We also hosted students at our main studio interested in learning about broadcasting. On Sunday, January 7, sports reporter Kari Osep participated in the Unified Sports Experience relay to raise funds for the PA Special Olympics. On Thursday, February 4, Account Executive Joe Sell spoke to students at Northern Cambria Catholic School Career Day about jobs in television. Also, a high school student from Ligonier Valley School District participated in a job shadow program, watching the production of a news program and then the live broadcast of the noon news. On February 5 and 6, WJAC sponsored Snow Daze at Seven Springs Resort where families were invited to ski, snowboard, and snow tube with station personalities. A Weather Experience Booth, green screen with camera and prompter, was set up to allow visitors to try their hand at weather forecasting. Station meteorologists coached the visitors who received recordings of their performances. On Saturday, February 6, Sports anchor Jordan Conigliaro emceed the Special Olympics Polar Plunge fundraiser in Holidaysburg. On March 2, sales assistant Lisa Downey participated in Read Across America at Moms House, a facility that provides services for single moms finishing their education and returning to the work force. On Friday, March 4, reporter Eric Calandra spoke to students at the Mount Nittany Elementary School about news reporting. Station representatives attended college career fairs at Penn State University on March 18 and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on March 24 to interview students interested in internships or jobs at the station. On Thursday, March 31, 13 students from the Windber Area School District Media Club toured the station and observed a live broadcast of the noon news.
