See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.671, NOTES 2 and 3. | The station terminated analog operations on June 12, 2009. Questions 7(b) and 7(c) are no longer applicable. Below is a list of other activities and special projects KXNW-TV is involved in; PSAs concerning kids that ran on KXNW-TV; a list of schools and other organizations visited by KXNW employees; and some of the news stories that were related to children and education that aired during our local newscasts in the 2nd quarter of 2012. KXNW is involved in several special projects including: 5NEWS In School - A program where KXNW invites area schools to sign up through our website to have employees visit their school and talk to students about a career in broadcasting, weather, severe weather safety, etc. KXNW and KFSM participate in the Partners in Education (PIE) program which establishes mutually beneficial relationships between businesses and schools. Over 100 local companies and businesses partner with area schools to mentor, provide services, equipment or whatever may assist in the educational goals of a particular school. KFSM and KXNW are Partners in Education to Darby Jr. High School in Fort Smith. We donate used printer toner cartridges to Darby and they use the money to purchase equipment for the school (such as copiers, toner cartridges, etc.) and for educational field trips. We also provide emcees and judges for various school activities throughout the year. Backpack Buddies - KFSM and KXNW team up with Community Services Clearinghouse, Inc., to bring balanced meals to local kids through the Backpack Buddies program. The Clearinghouse supplies area residents with Meals for Kids food list so they can purchase individually sized packages of the suggested foods and donate them to the Clearinghouse who then provides the items to area kids who otherwise would not have enough to eat. KFSM and KXNW help Community Services Clearinghouse with various projects throughout the year. Along with several other panel members, he fielded questions related to diversity in the workplace. 04/05/2012 Two students from Coleman Jr. High School in Van Buren were job shadows with Anchor Ashley Beck and Meteorologist Joe Pennington. Job shadowing gives students an opportunity to see what it is like to work in television and to figure out what courses they need to take in the future. 04/11/2012 Two students from Arkansas Tech University spent several weeks with KFSM/KXNW for a college internship. They had the opportunity to see how a broadcast journalist works in a modern newsroom. They wrote stories and learned how to shoot and edit video. 04/14/2012 Meteorologist Jason Adams was emcee for the Benton County Childrens Advocacy Council 5K Glow Run. 04/20/2012 A group of Girl Scouts from Oklahoma visited the station and talked with meteorologist Jason Adams about the weather and how a weather forecast is done. 04/30/2012 Shanda Sundstrom, Executive Producer, and Pam Euper, Sales Assistant, talked to a group of students from the Mass Communication Class at University of Arkans |
