During the 4th Quarter of 2014, for example, WMBC aired such reports as: Newark Museum runs a campaign directed toward children on the benefits of eating healthy and staying active; Enterovirus 68 is reported to make its way to the NJ/NY area; high school football participation reportedly fell from 2008 to 2012 as cases of head injuries become more prevalent; reported cases of death on school grounds has drawn attention to cardiomyopathy; CDC says the popularity of e-cigarettes doubles the chances of smoking tobacco later in life; the American Academy of Pediatrics says high school students need 8.5 to 9.5 hrs of sleep each night; schools across the area are re-evaluating proper conduct in competitive play in the wake of reported hazing among players at Sayreville High; United Way collections include donations from rotary clubs in Wallkill Valley, Newton, Branchville and Vernon; NJ Standardized testing is changing; Hackettstown toy drive supports around 300 kids in need during the holiday season; in NJ there were 19,000 total reported incidents of violence, weapons, substance abuse, vandalism and bullying in the 2013-14 school year, down 9% from the previous year; Fantasy Flight at Newark Liberty Airport gives kids battling cancer and sickle cell disease a day filled with fun and fantasy; the NJ Apartment Associate hosts a children's holiday party; Paws 4 a Cause hosts a popular library program known as books and woofs; Paterson Housing Complex was built to house youths who are homeless or leaving foster care; two of the top teams in northern NJ squared off in a group 2 showdown, as Pascack Hills Cowboys traveled to West Caldwell to take on the James Caldwell Chiefs; LI football player collapsed after rising from a collision; at MSDA Volleyball Caldwell's Lady Lions defended their home court while Mount St. Dominic won their first and second games; in football action the Verona Hillbillies prevailed over the Butler Bulldogs; the James Caldwell Chiefs hosted the South Plainfield Tigers in best of 3 match; Ridge Red Devils meet the Hunterdon Central Red Devils; the Montclair Mounties face off against the Newton Braves; Vernon hockey coach Raymond Zimmerman speaks about the positive aspects of his team's performance.
