Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. Lazy Town encourages fitness and healthful habits for preschool children. In the imaginary setting of Lazy Town, characters' eating and fitness habits are linked to problem solving in their world. The lead character is Stephanie, a young girl who guides the audience through the story as she and her friends ("human" puppets) and her Uncle (Mayor Milford Meanswell) navigate life within Lazy Town. Robbie Rotten, the underground spy and influencer who personifies the ethos of Lazy Town, is determined to ruin the health and fitness practices of Stephanie and her friends. When the kids have difficulty with Robbie Rotten, Sportacus, a gymnast/athlete prepared to answer any call for help, comes to the rescue from his home in a zeppelin-like aircraft that hovers over earth. The underlying themes of Lazy Town stress the importance of eating "sports candy" (aka fruits and vegetables), always obtaining sufficient sleep, and going outside to engage in a wide range of physical activities including playing games, competing athletically, and even building forts and play structures. Some of the educational messages and lessons learned this quarter include working with family and friends to better or improve the community; when you believe in yourself, practice and work hard you can accomplish your goal; and always be true to your self and your friends. During the quarter Lazy Town was preempted from its regular time period 7 times for live sporting events. Each preemption and rescheduling were promoted in advance. All but two of the rescheduled programs aired in the secondary time period. The episodes preempted on Saturday 7/12 and 9/27 aired in a secondary time period for children's programming as an extension of the children's blocks of programming. In 4th quarter the program moves to 12noon on Saturdays.

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. Justin Time is an animated show specifically directed to the preschool audience (ages 2-5) and always conveys an embedded lesson; it is possible to understand and manage any problem you have by thinking about it creatively. Justin is a little boy, who wants very much to master his destiny, have great adventures, and solve problems. He begins with a problem that vexes him and daydreams his way into an adventure that takes him to different places around the world, providing him with an experience to help solve his problem when he returns home. Justin is accompanied by two imaginary friends throughout his adventures; Olive, a knowledgeable playmate, and Squidgy, the morphing flying sponge, who provides commentary and comedy along the way. Some examples of Justin's lessons involve learning that it takes focus to achieve success, our failures can teach us what we need to do to succeed next time, or when one path to solve a problem doesn't work, you can find an alternative way to achieve your goal. Justin promotes self-directed learning from the young child's perspective and imagination. Some of the educational messages and lessons learned this quarter include understanding one big challenge is made up of smaller challenges that you can master to achieve success, participating and giving something your all can be just as fun as winning, and big jobs require teams of people using their unique skills. On July 12th and September 27th the show was preempted for live sporting events. Both preemptions and the movement were promoted in advance.

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. The Chica Show is an educational and informational program for a young pre-school audience, ages 2 to 5, that addresses cognitive reasoning skills and personal interaction to resolve a problem or situation. Chica is a five-year-old "baby" chick who spends her days with her parents in their costume shop, the Coop. The shop's one employee, Kelly, doubles as Chica's nanny and the ensemble is rounded out with Bunji, a large floppy eared rabbit and Stitches, a straw mannequin that sits in the window. In each episode Chica develops or encounters a problem that she cannot immediately resolve. Usually her issues involve impulse control, distractibility, judgment, and inter-personal behaviors. She and Kelly usually work on the problem through an adventure-a fantasy transformation to animation-- where Bunji and Stiches come alive and join Chica and Kelly for the problem solving process. The core educational content is primarily socio-emotional development, and Chica learns how to express herself properly, think before she acts, and interact with others effectively. She often learns that it takes hard work and practice to become proficient at different skills. Some of the educational messages and lessons learned this quarter include the importance of telling the truth, including everyone in the fun and games activities and ask for permission when using someone else's belongings. The Chica Show was moved on 7/12 & 9/27 for live sporting events. Both episodes were scheduled in advance with the preemption and rescheduling promoted in advance. The 9/27 episode aired twice - once on 8/9 in its secondary home and again on 9/28 at 2pm which was not its secondary home. Only the first telecast is being counted in our FCC Children's core programming requirements. On 8/9 the regularly scheduled episode at 10:30am was preempted due to live breaking news - it was not rescheduled. On October 4th series moves to its new time, Saturdays at 11am

Describe the educational and informational objective of the program and how it meets the definition of Core Programming. Zou is a French series based on the Zou books by Michel Gay. Targeted for children age 2-5, each episode explores the kind of learning issues that emerge from everyday encounters in the life of a preschool child. If Zou plays his drums too loud, how can he learn to play them softly? If Zou wants a car, but has only a cardboard box, how can he transform it? If Zou lost his friend's favorite airplane, how does he explain? How can Zou be successful at baking a cake if he has never done it before? How can Zou muster the courage to go to the doctor when he's afraid of injections? These are big issues in the mind and life of a preschool child and Zou demonstrates how to have fun, ask for help, listen to advice, and try different solutions until he can commit to the strategy that works. The show says it, shows it, and does it, in the embedded and naturally occurring lesson within each episode. Some of the educational messages and lessons learned this quarter include how to help an upset friend, thinking through problems and coming up with solutions and if you don't have talent at one thing, work on finding something else that better suits your natural abilities . Tree Fu Tom, is a live action/animated series about a little boy who lives in a rural area and has a rich fantasy life in the woods behind his home. While in Treetopolis, Tom and his friends, Ariella, Twigs, Squirmturn and Zigzoo will invariably run into a problem or disaster that needs fixing.
