In addition to core children's programming, WICS airs public service announcements and news programming that have educational & informational value for children. Our news team has a segment called "Thursday's Child" where they encourage the audience to become mentors to support our local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter have in Springfield, IL. We also have a couple of employees who mentor for this chapter. In addition, we have various reporters who are assigned the "Education Beat". Our news department produces educational stories to air at least once a week and more when school is in session. Our sports department also produces an "Athlete of the Week" segment.
